I Specialize in

Michael Opoku-Forfieh is an experienced counsellor, clinical supervisor, and EMDR therapist with a deep commitment to trauma healing, youth empowerment, and community well-being. He holds a Master of Science with Merit in Therapeutic Counselling from the University of Greenwich and is an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). He is also certified in EMDR therapy through the EMDR Centre London. Michael became a mental health professional for several reasons. Initially, he was driven to support a family member living with a serious mental illness and complex trauma. His path has also been shaped by his passion for the arts, which evolved from visual expression into collaborative and therapeutic creativity with clients and supervisees. A skilled and attentive listener, he is known for his ability to hear both what is spoken and what remains unspoken. Michael’s professional journey—from basketball coaching and group mentoring to his work in prisons, probation services, and schools—has always centered on creating spaces for transformation and healing. Over the past decade, he has worked extensively with individuals and groups impacted by trauma, incarceration, and systemic injustice. His clinical experience spans private practice, forensic mental health services, and school-based counselling, including roles as Lead Counsellor at Oxleas NHS Trust and Mental Health Counsellor at Refuge for Newcomer Health. A strong advocate for culturally responsive care, Michael has facilitated long-term therapy groups for Black men and provided mental health mentorship for students navigating systemic barriers. His integrative approach draws on person-centered, psychodynamic, EMDR, and trauma-informed models to create bespoke support for each client. In addition to his clinical practice, Michael has contributed to the training of future therapists as a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Greenwich and provided supervision and leadership across various community and institutional settings. He currently sits on the Board of Directors at St. Leonard’s Society of Hamilton (SLSH), helping to shape the organization's vision and mental health strategies. Michael is committed to continuous learning and upholding the highest ethical standards in his practice. His work is marked by compassion, curiosity, and a deep belief in people’s capacity for growth and healing.
